Now that it’s September and we’re getting back into the swing of all things work and school, I’m always looking for new healthy snacks to nibble on at home or pack in my bag when I’m on the go. I know that parents are getting back into the swing of packing school lunches, and it’s nice to have easy meals and snacks that come together in minutes.

Homemade trail mix is a great option for healthy snacking. The combinations are endless and you can add or omit whatever you like or dislike! This one in particular offers a balance of fibre, plant-based protein, healthy fats, and a little sweetness! It’s great to prep a large batch (like this recipe will make) at the start of the week and then portion it out into containers to grab and go as the week trails on.

The Benefits of Homemade Trail Mix

It tends to be cheaper than your typical store-bought trail mixes. Especially if you purchase your ingredients at your local bulk-food store!

You can tailor it to your liking. Don’t like coconut chips? Don’t add them! Really love the crunch of sunflower seeds? Add some more!

It’s not always easy to find a nut-free trail mix at the store, but this homemade recipe is! A lot of schools have nut-free policies these days so this is a great nut-free snack option.

Why you’ll love this recipe

It’s different! Most trail mixes are heavy on the nuts, but this one relies on pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds for healthy fats, protein and fibre.

It’s easy to make. You just toss the ingredients together in a large bowl and ta-da! You’ve got snacks for the week.

The roasted pumpkin seeds add a fall-inspired flare to the recipe.
