Apples and caramel.. one of the world’s best flavour combinations.

I remember you used to be able to buy these little packages of caramel dip with apple slices in the produce section of the grocery store. They were such a treat!

Being a Registered Dietitian, I’m all about sharing balanced snack recipes that taste good too. So, I I thought I’d put a more nutritious spin on apples and caramel with a nutrient boost and more staying power. The result? This healthy caramel dip for apples!

What Makes this Caramel Dip Nutritious?

So many things!

First off, I’m a firm believer in adding a tasty dip to healthy foods that may not always be the most tasty on their own, like fruits and veggies. If it encourages you to eat more fruits and/or vegetables, it’s a healthy choice in my books.

Next, the dip uses Greek yogurt (not regular yogurt). I’m such a big fan of Greek yogurt for a variety of reasons! It’s high in protein, rich in nutrients like calcium, potassium, and vitamin B12, and low in sugar. It also adds a delicious creamy texture to our apple dip.

This recipe also uses dates, which sweetens the dip while offering nutrition! Dates are a good source of insoluble fibre, which helps to promote bowel regularity and healthy digestion. In addition to fibre, adding dates to our dip also adds important nutrients like magnesium, potassium, and antioxidants.

Finally, using almond butter in our healthy caramel dip for apples adds flavour and creaminess along with some healthy unsaturated fats.
