5 minutes is all you need to make peanut butter at home! You only need one ingredient, but I like to add a pinch of salt and spoonful of maple syrup to make the best homemade peanut butter recipe that’s smooth, creamy, and far more delicious than store-bought. Enjoy it on toast, oatmeal, or straight from the jar!

If you’ve made it to this post, I assume you’re a peanut butter lover just like me.

There isn’t much that peanut butter can’t make better. It adds creaminess to smoothies, healthy fats and protein to oatmeal, and its the perfect pair for all things chocolate. Like my famous no-bake chocolate peanut butter oat bars and peanut butter chocolate greek yogurt bark.

And if you didn’t know, making DIY peanut butter at home is really easy. It takes just a few minutes, and all you need is peanuts! You can add flavour with salt, spices, or sweetener, or just leave it as is.

Is Homemade Peanut Butter Healthy?

Yes! As a Registered Dietitian, peanut butter is a staple in my healthy diet. It’s a great source of healthy fats, as well as a source of protein and fibre. Peanut butter also offers important minerals that include magnesium, vitamin B6, potassium, and iron.

From a nutrition standpoint, homemade peanut butter and store-bought natural peanut butter are very similar. Both use just one ingredient (peanuts), although some may have a little bit of salt added.

Making peanut butter at home is different from ‘non-natural’ peanut butter varieties (like Kraft, Jif, and Skippy) in that it doesn’t contain any added oils or sugars. That being said, in this recipe I do add a little bit of salt and maple syrup for flavour, but you can omit these if you like.

How to Make DIY Peanut Butter at Home:

How to Store Homemade Peanut Butter:

Store your peanut butter in an airtight container in a jar (I like to use mason jars).

You can refrigerate it or store it at room temperature, however I’d recommend keeping it in the fridge if it’s going to be several weeks until you finish it.
