Dairy Free Donuts with Cinnamon Sugar

This one goes out to all of my dairy free/vegan readers!

While I’m not dairy free or vegan myself, I know that there are lots of you out there who are (whether it’s for a health reason, allergy, or personal choice). Whether you’re dairy free, gluten free or plant based, I like to create recipes that can be enjoyed by those with specific dietary restrictions every once in a while.

This donut recipe can be enjoyed by those who are dairy free, vegan, and even gluten free (just swap all-purpose flour for 1:1 gluten free flour!). Enjoy!

Ingredients for Dairy Free Donuts with Cinnamon Sugar:

For the Dairy Free Donuts:

  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Baking soda
  • Brown sugar
  • Salt
  • Ground flaxseed
  • Almond milk
  • Coconut oil (go with refined coconut oil if you don’t like the coconut flavour)
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Sugar:

  • White sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Cooking oil spray

How to Make Vegan Baked Donuts:

Step 1: Prep

Preheat your oven to 350F and coat a donut pan with non-stick spray. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed and 3 tablespoons of water to create a “flax egg” and set aside.

Step 2: Combine Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the dry donut ingredients. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together wet donut ingredients (including flax egg). Then, pour the wet mixture into the dry and stir to combine, but don’t over-mix!

Step 3: Divide Into Donut Pan

Divide the donut batter amongst the prepared donut pan evenly. Each section of the pan should be about two thirds full of batter.

Step 4: Bake the Donuts

Place pan in the oven and bake at 350F for 10-12 minutes, until donuts spring back when you press on them. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack until completely cooled.

Step 5: Roll in Cinnamon Sugar

In a shallow bowl, whisk together white sugar and cinnamon. Spray each donut lightly with cooking oil spray, the roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated evenly.

Enjoy!

Substitution Suggestions:

  • For all-purpose flour: If you want to make these donuts gluten-free, just swap the flour for 1:1 gluten-free flour.
  • For almond milk: You can use whatever plant milk you like. If you’re not dairy free, you can use cow’s milk as well.
  • For flax egg: If you’re not vegan, feel free to use a traditional egg.
  • For brown sugar: You can use white sugar instead of brown in the donut recipe.
