Chia pudding is one of my favourite healthy recipes to prep. From classic vanilla chia pudding to creamy banana chia pudding and even tropical mango chia pudding.

For some people, the gooey texture of chia seed pudding just doesn’t sit right. And I get it, it is a slightly acquired texture. So that’s where blended chia pudding comes in.

You still get the nutrition benefits and ease of preparation (plus one extra step – blending). But the texture is smooth and creamy, just like traditional pudding. This blended chocolate chia pudding is based off of my original chocolate chia pudding recipe, but it is smooth, decadent, and somewhat airy – like a chocolate chia mousse!

All you need is 5 minutes and 5 ingredients to get started, and in no time you’ll be enjoying this recipe as a healthy breakfast, snack, or dessert!

What’s the Deal with Chia Pudding?

Chia pudding has gained a lot of popularity in the healthy eating space over the last 10 years or so. As a Registered Dietitian, I totally get why.

Chia pudding is made primarily of chia seeds, which offer a variety of nutrition benefits. They’re rich in dietary fibre, particularly soluble fibre, which is important for digestion in that it forms a gel with liquid and keep things moving.

Because of this, chia seeds can also absorb liquids, which is why they create a pudding-like texture when combined with a liquid like milk.

Additionally, they’re a source of healthy fats including omega-3s, as well as plant-based protein, and important nutrients like iron and calcium.

How to Make Blended Chocolate Chia Pudding:

Making blended chocolate chia pudding is just like making regular chia pudding – with one extra step!

Start by combining the chia seeds with cocoa powder and a teeny pinch of sea salt. The sea salt just helps to bring out the rich chocolate flavour more.

Next, add the liquids, which includes milk (of your choice) and maple syrup. You can also use honey or another liquid sweetener here.

Stir everything together until well-combined, then cover and refrigerate the mixture for 4 hours or overnight. This is truly the most difficult step ;).

After the chia pudding has had time to set, pop it into a blender or food processor for about 60-90 seconds until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and airy. And that’s it!

Ways to Enjoy Chocolate Chia Mousse:

As I’ve mentioned, this chocolate chia mousse is nutritious enough to enjoy for breakfast and sweet enough to enjoy as a healthy dessert or sweet snack. You can add a variety of toppings, including:

  • Yogurt or Greek yogurt
  • Whipped cream
  • Berries like strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries
  • Sliced banana
  • Coconut flakes
  • Chopped nuts like almonds or walnuts
  • Chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles

Blended Chia Pudding Tips & Tricks:

  • Meal prepping? Easily double or triple this recipe so you’ll have servings for the entire week!
  • After placing the mixture in the fridge to set, give it a good stir approx. 1-2 hours later. This helps to prevent it from not setting properly, which can result in a more runny mixture.
  • Keep chia pudding (blended or not) sealed in an airtight container in the fridge, and it will keep up to 5 days in the fridge.
  • You can freeze chia pudding in freezer-safe containers! It will store well in the freezer up to 3 months. When you’re ready to eat it, thaw it in the fridge, and give it a good stir before serving.
