Y’all, I love a good homemade dressing. You might think that they’re a lot of extra effort, but in reality they really only take 5-10 minutes and they taste so. much. better!!!

Not only are from-scratch dressings and sauces so much more flavourful than store-bought, when you use nourishing ingredients like fresh herbs, garlic, and extra-virgin olive oil, you reap the nutrition benefits too!

Just like my Healthy DIY Caesar Dressing, my Lightened-Up Italian Dressing, and my Quick Lemon and Olive Oil Dressing, this Avocado Green Goddess Dressing is quick, delicious, and packs a nutritious punch!

Is Green Goddess Dressing Healthy?

This dressing gets it’s green colour because its chalk-full of cilantro, parsley, and green onions. Each of these ingredients offer health-promoting properties. Yes, herbs and vegetables from the allium family (like onions and garlic) have nutrition benefits, too!

Both fresh cilantro and parsley offer vitamins A, C and K, as well as small amounts of minerals that include iron, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. They’re also a good source of antioxidants, and may have anti-inflammatory properties, as do green onions and garlic!

As a Registered Dietitian, I also see salad dressings as a great opportunity to add some healthy fats to our meals. In this dressing I use both avocado and extra-virgin olive oil, which are good sources of mono and polyunsaturated fats (aka ‘healthy fats’).

Having a little bit of fat in our salad dressing also helps our bodies absorb certain vitamins (vitamins A, D, E, and K) from the foods that we eat it with. Neat, right?

What Does Green Goddess Dressing Taste Like?

Not only is this creamy avocado dressing good for you, it’s tasty, too! It’s fresh and and herbaceous, thanks to the parsley, cilantro and green onion.

The lime juice and white wine vinegar add some tanginess, and when we blend it all together with avocado and extra virgin olive oil, the result is a smooth and creamy texture.

Overall, the combination of herbs, creamy texture, tanginess, and savoury elements create a well-rounded and flavourful homemade dressing or dip.
