Crispy Air Fryer Tofu

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always enjoyed tofu most when it’s crispy. Whether I’m eating tofu in a stir fry, nourish bowl, tofu tacos, or really anything else I enjoy it best when crispy. I’m sure I’m not the only one!

If you love crispy tofu too, you’re going to love this recipe. It’s quick, easy, and incredibly versatile, meaning you can enjoy the tofu with just about anything. Enjoy!

Ingredients for Air Fryer Tofu

  • 1 400g block extra-firm tofu
  • 1 tablespoon oil (avocado, olive or canola will work)
  • 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons corn starch (can sub for arrowroot starch)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Crispy Air Fryer Tofu is easy, vegan and a great source of protein. Enjoy with a favourite dip, or add to tacos, stir fries, and buddha bowls.

How to Make Air Fryer Tofu

Step 1: Press + chop tofu

I highly recommend that you do not skip this step! Pressing the tofu helps eliminate moisture which will help our tofu reach peak crispiness when we air fry it.

Remove tofu from packaging and wrap in paper towel. Place something heavy (I use a cast-iron pan and a small stack of cookbooks) on top of the tofu and leave to press out moisture for 15 minutes.

Remove heavy object, unwrap tofu and discard paper towel. Chop tofu in approx. 2-3 cm cubes.

Step 2: Toss tofu

In a medium mixing bowl, toss tofu with olive oil and soy sauce.

Add cornstarch and spices then toss again until tofu is coated.

Step 3: Air fry

Add tofu to air fryer basket. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may want to cook the tofu in two separate batches.

Set air fryer to 390F and air fry tofu for 15 minutes, giving the basket a shake to toss tofu every 5 minutes.
