You may be missing out…
If you haven’t tried frozen cauliflower in your smoothies – you’re missing out on a key ingredient in a variety of healthy smoothie recipes. It’s an easy way to add an extra serving of vegetables to your day, and it lends a nice creamy texture to your smoothie. It is the perfect addition (and one of the stars) of this chocolate cauliflower smoothie recipe – I also include it in my 5-minute ultimate morning smoothie.
Not only is this smoothie creamy, chocolatey, and delicious, it is nutritious and balanced, too! It’s got healthy carbs (banana), vegetables (hi, cauliflower!), plus protein and healthy fats to keep you full and satisfied. All of these things combine together to create a fabulous breakfast option, or a quick on the go snack.

Using cauliflower in your smoothie:
Like in this recipe, I generally use store-bought frozen cauliflower in my smoothies. Store-bought frozen vegetables are typically blanched (aka partially cooked) before freezing, so if you want to prepare frozen cauliflower for your smoothies at home, I’d recommend blanching it first.

Tips from my test kitchen:
- Add some sweetness to your chocolate cauliflower smoothie. This is why I use a date as well as a banana to this smoothie recipe – for natural sweetness.
- Use plenty of liquid! Don’t be afraid of adding a little extra milk (or whatever liquid) to your frozen cauliflower smoothie. Cauliflower is a tough vegetable, and in order to blend it up well you will need to use plenty of liquid, and hopefully a decent blender!

My Favourite Blender
My Vitamix blender is my favourite kitchen appliance! Not only does it make the smoothest, creamiest smoothies, you can also make a variety of recipes like sauces, dressings, and soups in it, too!

Love this smoothie! Added a tbsp of cocoa powder for extra chocolately goodness. Can’t taste the cauliflower in it at all. 🙂
Thanks so much Catherine!!
Love this..
So glad to hear that Asia!
How long can it stay in the refrigerator? Can I freeze it?
I’d say it can stay in the fridge about 24 hours until the texture may start to change. I have not tried freezing the smoothie, but if you do let me know. Defrosting in the fridge the day before enjoying/overnight would probably be your best bet!
Hey! Is this raw cauliflower or roasted cauliflower? Thanks
Hi Rosie, when testing this recipe I used store-bought frozen cauliflower (which typically has been blanched before freezing).
